The Stetson men’s varsity four+ of stroke Andrew Rouse, Jack Ulriksen, Jackson Reddick, bow David Nutting and coxswain Angelo Parkinson will compete in the 2014 SIRA Regatta in Oak Ridge, Tenn. on Friday and Saturday.

The team is looking forward to the chance to race the fastest competition from around the eastern half of the United States. The event has 31 Men’s V4+’s entered from all over the country. Last year’s winner was Florida Tech with a time of 6:33. Florida was also in the final in 2013 and Stetson will be racing Florida, Georgia Tech, Wichita State, Embry Riddle and Alabama in the first heat race at 5:02 p.m. Friday afternoon.

“The boys have been really clicking along and after a little hiccup at the FIRA are raring to race,” head coach Mark Wilson said.  “James Dietz, assistant coach, has been mentoring these boys all season and if anyone knows how to race in big events it is James. James was third at the US 1x trials for the Olympic Games in 2012.”

The men’s four is a very competitive event at the SIRA as many of the larger teams will race this event as either their 2nd or 3rd priority boat, but many teams like Stetson will come to the regatta with the four as a priority. With 31 teams racing during the weekend each boat will race three times through a series of heats, semifinals and finals. Stetson is poised to have a great heat and progress to one of the A/B Semis.

The women’s team, meanwhile, will be hitting Lake Pickett on Saturday morning and doing a workout/race pieces with UCF on their home course. Stetson is thrilled to be on the water with a local but very fast team in preparation for the MAAC conference regatta on April 26.
