Following a dramatic photo finish in the semifinal heat, the Stetson men’s varsity 4+ placed eighth out of 31 boats at the SIRA Rowing Championships in Oak Ridge, Tenn., April 18-19.

In the semifinals, the crew of Andrew Rouse, Jack Ulriksen, Jackson Reddick, David Nutting and coxswain Angelo Parkinson went stroke for stroke with rival JU in one of the tightest races of the weekend. When the boats finished it appeared to be a dead heat for second place, where the top two teams would advance to the final. Neither JU nor Stetson rowers knew who would take the final berth. After the video review the ruling went to JU by a time difference of just .3 seconds.  The Dolphins would finish fourth in the A final.

"In the end it came down to who took the last stroke," assistant coach James Dietz said.  "I am very proud of our guys and the fight they showed in those last 500meters.  They pushed all the way to the line and those are the races we as athletes and coaches will always remember.”

The Hatters completed the semifinal with a time of 7:10.0. Stetson went on to place second in the B final with a time of 7:20.5, finishing a half second ahead of Florida State.

With a boat full of under classman the Hatters look forward to seeing their speed increase next year.
