DeLand, Fla. - Stetson athletics has announced that Mallory Dunn has been hired to coach the men's and women's cross country teams. Dunn replaces John Boyle who stepped down last spring after 17 years of service to the program.
"What an opportunity," said Dunn enthusiastically. "This is a great university with great student-athletes. I am excited and thankful for the opportunity to build on the efforts of Coach Boyle in making this program the best it can be".
Dunn's objective with her athletes is to motivate them to reach their potential in the sport and encourage their passion for distance running. She is a former high school and college standout runner and is currently a competitive triathlete.
Dunn was a state champion in both cross country and track at Seabreeze High School and then went on to earn four varsity letters in both cross country and track at the University of Florida from 2001-2005. She was also named to the Southeastern Conference Academic Honor Roll from 2003-2005. She graduated from Florida in 2006 with a B.A. in Architecture Design.
Dunn's coaching experience includes an assistant position with the Seabreeze High School swim team in 2006 and as assistant coach of the Flagler Palm Coast High School track and field team in 2008. She is currently employed by the Volusia County Beach Patrol as a lifeguard and dispatcher. Dunn is also a certified massage therapist after having graduated from the Boulder College of Massage Therapy in Boulder, Colorado.
