With non-conference play officially over, the Stetson softball team will begin a stretch of 24 straight Atlantic Sun Conference games this weekend as the Hatters host the Mercer Bears in a three-game series at Patricia Wilson Field.
The teams will play a doubleheader at 1 p.m. Saturday and a single game at 1 p.m. Sunday. All three games can be seen for free on HatterVision with Jeff Sharon calling the action. Live stats will also be available at GoHatters.com.
The Hatters (17-10, 0-3 A-Sun) enter the weekend having won 16 of their last 18 games at home. However, Stetson has only played three conference games so far and is still seeking its first win.
The Bears (18-14, 7-2 A-Sun), meanwhile have already played nine conference games including Wednesday's 4-2 home win over Kennesaw State. With seven A-Sun victories, Mercer is two games ahead of next two closest schools (Jacksonville and USC Upstate) in the win column.
Sophomore Demi Meza is red-hot for the Hatters, having hit five home runs in her last four games, including three against Marshall on Wednesday. In her last five games she is batting .471 (8-for-17) and slugging 1.471 with nine RBI.
Junior Meredith Owen leads the Hatters in the circle with a 12-3 record and a 1.62 ERA.
The Hatters have already equaled last year's home run total (28) and have homered in eight straight games.
Stetson leads the all-time series 52-14 over Mercer, including a 9-2 advantage at Patricia Wilson Field.
