DELAND, Fla. – Fresh off of its first out of state road trip this season, the Stetson University softball team will be back at the friendly confines of Patricia Wilson Field this week, when it hosts Marist and Buffalo in non-conference games.

The Hatters (15-5) (3-2), will first take on Marist in a doubleheader, Tuesday, Mar. 18 and then Buffalo in a single game on Wednesday, Mar. 19.

Stetson went 3-2 during its first week of conference play, taking two of three from previously No. 25 ranked USC Upstate and then splitting two games with Mercer in Macon, before the serious finale was rained out on Sunday.

The Hatters have performed exceptionally well in DeLand, posting a 12-2 record and 2-1 mark against A-Sun opponents. They have also hit 17 of their 19 long balls this season at Patricia Wilson Field and scored an average of 6.1 runs per game while at their home field.

Last week, pitcher and designated player Meredith Owen reached two notable milestones. She became just the third player in Stetson history to belt 25 home runs and the sixth pitcher in program history with 50 wins. The two feats were accomplished within a day of one another as she picked up her 50th victory in a complete game three-hitter vs. USC Upstate, Mar. 11 and then collected her 25th long ball, Mar. 12 vs. the same Spartan team, with a towering two-run shot to left to tie the game at 3-3.

Owen’s pair of achievements has carved out a special place for her in the A-Sun record books as she became just the second player in conference history to reach the 50 win/25 home run plateau. The only other player to match Owen’s feat was Florida Atlantic’s Nicole Myers who amassed 54 home runs and 108 wins from 1999-02.

Owen currently leads Stetson in home runs with seven and is third in the conference in that category. She is also tops on the team with eight wins, which places her fifth in the A-Sun.

She and the Hatters take on Marist first at 4 p.m., Tuesday at Patricia Wilson Field, then again in Game 2 at approximately 6:30 p.m. The Red Foxes will play UCF in Orlando on Monday, before their match-up with Stetson.

Wednesday’s game with Buffalo gets underway at 6 p.m. as the Bulls will also be playing games in Orlando, before their trip to DeLand. They take on Army and then Albany on Tuesday at UCF.

Tickets start at $5 per day and can be purchased online at or at the Patricia Wilson Field box office. Stetson students, faculty, and staff are free with a valid ID. Subscription based live video of the Stetson games will be available on HatterVision.  Live stats, the Stetson softball twitter feed, and the Hat-Alerts text messaging system will provide in-game updates as well.
