Stetson University senior Meredith Owen (Jackson, Miss.) and junior Demi Meza (Oxnard, Calif.) each earned National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-South Region honors for the first time in their careers, it was announced on Thursday.

Both players are now eligible for selection to one of three 2014 NFCA Division I All-American teams.

Owen, a first team All-Region selection as a pitcher/utility player, is 26-7 in the circle with a 0.84 ERA this season.  She has struck out 183 batters in 207.2 innings pitched, and opponents are hitting just .185 against her.

Owen leads the Atlantic Sun in wins, ERA, innings pitched, and complete games (25), and her 0.84 ERA ranks second in the nation.  She recently earned A-Sun Championship MVP honors after going 4-0 with 0.50 ERA in 28 innings.

At the plate, Owen is batting .343 with a team-high 14 home runs and 44 RBI.  She ranks third in the league in slugging (.714), fourth in on-base pct. (.461), and fifth in total bases (100).  She earned first-team all-conference honors as a pitcher and second-team honors as a designated player.

Meza, meanwhile, earned third-team All-Region honors as a second baseman.  This season, she is batting a career-best .340 with 10 home runs and 44 RBI.  She ranks among the league leaders in batting average, slugging percentage (.627), on-base percentage (.433), runs (40), doubles (12), home runs, RBI, and total bases (96).  A second-team all-conference selection, Meza has started all 50 games for the Hatters this season.

The duo become Stetson's first All-Region selections since Amanda Lindsey and Jessica Lokeinski in 2010.  Owen is Stetson's first first-team All-Region selection since Melissa Wiggins in 2005.

Stetson (38-12) will face UCF in the first-round of the NCAA Gainesville Regional on Friday at 3:30 p.m.
