DELAND, Fla. – The Stetson University softball team will play its first ever three game A-Sun series in Johnson City, Tenn., this weekend as it takes on ETSU. The Hatters and Bucs have hooked up as conference foes at Basler Field before, but previously in only two game sets.
Stetson (18-5, 3-2) will take on an ETSU team that carries an 11-12 overall mark and a 1-5 conference record. The two squads will meet in the regular season for the final time as A-Sun opponents, as the Buccaneers will be going to the Southern Conference to begin competition at the start of the 2014-15 season.
The Hatters are currently on a three game winning streak after sweeping a doubleheader with Marist on Tuesday and a single game with Buffalo on Wednesday. The game against UB featured a five run sixth inning comeback, sparked by back-to-back home runs by Jessica Griffin and Courtney Brandt.
Stetson has won five of its last six games, stretching back to opening weekend of A-Sun play, when it took two of three from then first place USC Upstate. Head Coach Frank Griffin’s squad currently sits in fourth place in the conference standings, tied with Mercer, who has an identical 3-2 mark. The Hatters are just 2.5 games off the pace of first place Kennesaw State which holds a 5-1 conference record.
The first game between SU and ETSU is scheduled for 1 p.m., Saturday, Mar. 22, with the second game of the doubleheader to start at approximately 3:30 p.m., in Johnson City. First pitch for Sunday’s finale will take place at 10:30 a.m. at Betty Basler Field.
