Stetson University softball head coach Frank Griffin and associate head coach Vanessa Bataille have been named to the Big South Conference all-decade team for the 1980s, the league recently announced as part of its 30th anniversary celebration.
Griffin was selected as the head coach for the all-decade team, while Bataille earned a spot on the team as a utility player.
Griffin, who served as Winthrop University's head coach from 1983 to 1989, led the Eagles to six conference championships in seven seasons, including a Big South tournament title in 1989. He also guided Winthrop to two Big South regular season championships (1988, 1989) and a 58-37 record during those two seasons. Griffin was named the league's Coach of the Year following the 1988 campaign. He was inducted into the Winthrop Athletics Hall of Fame in 2008.
Bataille played for Winthrop from 1986-89, three-times earning a spot on the Big South all-conference team - as a catcher in 1987, as a first baseman in 1988, and as an outfielder in 1989. She batted .300 for her career.
