The Stetson Men's Lacrosse program which played their first exhibition matches in the spring of 2010 recorded their first victory on Saturday in St. Augutine verus Flagler College. The Hatters dropped their first game of the weekend on Friday night to Palm Beach Atlantic, but it was still a strong showing for the team and gave them momentuem into Saturdays match.
The Hatters fell to Palm Beach Atlantic in their last home match of the year on Friday afternoon 16-4. Three different hatters scored goals with President, Shane Pascoe, scoring twice. The Hatters finished the game strong after trailing at half 12-3 and picked up the defensive efforts to only let in 4 goals in the second half. Overall the team played strong lacrosse, but was outmanned and played by the deep roster of Palm Beach. The Hatters knew though their time to shine would be the following day, about 65 miles north, in St. Augutine.
Saturday featured a match between Flagler and Stetson in St. Augustine. The Hatters went into the game with a little chip on their shoulder as they dropped a home game earlier in the season on Feb. 16th to the Saints. The Hatters went down quick 2-0 to the Saints but rallied before halftime and went into the break up 5-4 over the Saints. The Hatters continued to play strong team lacrosse and ousted Flagler with a victory of 11-6. Shane Pascoe earned his first career hat trick and the win was a full team effort by the Hatters who were working with a small team of 14 players.
This win marks the first win in the programs history and for senior Phil Jabornik, it puts a sweet cap to his senior season. Phil was the founding President of the Men's lacrosse program when Club Sports first begun at Stetson in the spring of 2010. The team has come very close to wins before, even taking a game to double overtime, but has fallen short of the W since their game Saturday.The Hatters will finish their season schedule on Saturday, April 13th at ERAU in Daytona Beach.
