The shooting club travelled north to Jacksonville this weekend for their first competition of the year at Jacksonville Skeet and Trap Club. Stetson faced shooters from eight Southeastern universities, including the University of Florida, Clemson, Embry-Riddle and Jacksonville. Placing 7th out of the 91 male shooters was senior Michael Marco who had a total of 134 points from the trap, wobble trap, and skeet events. Tied with
Clemson for 3rd place in men's trap, Marco and the Clemson shooter entered a shoot-off. With a quick defeat, Marco won the third place medal. Sophomore, Ashley Mullen placed 7th of the 14 female shooters in her first competition with a total of 89 points earned. In the trap event, Mullen was one point shy of a 5th place finish. The 20+ mile an hour winds of Sandy made the high flying clays more difficult to hit, but that didn't stop the Stetson team from getting the job done. The team finished the competition with a score of 929 points totaled from the 10 shooters competing which put them 6th overall out of the 10 teams. The
shooting club heads back to practice now at Volusia County Skeet and Trap Club in preparation for their next competition and eventually Nationals in the spring. |
