Shooting Club President Ryan Stanford alongside university mentor Dr. Richard Libby accepted a check from Luke Scott, of the Tampa Bay Rays, on Wednesday, February 13. Mr. Scott's donation to the club marks the charter gift to the club's endowment fund with an aim to reach $100,000 by the end of the 4-year campaign. Gathered at the President's House, shooting club community members joined in welcoming and thanking Mr. Scott for his generous donation to the club's endowment. In attendance was Richard George-Stetson University Trustee, Dr. Richard Libby-Shooting Club Mentor, Michael Davis- Firearm Safety Instructor, Robert Matusick-Chief of Campus Public Safety, Jeff Altier- Director of Athletics, Pete Dunn-Head Baseball Coach, and Ryan Stanford along with other members of the shooting club. Mr. Scott, an avid shooter, was happy to help the club jumpstart its efforts towards the creation of an endowment. He is also no outsider to shooting and enjoys hunting as well. Mr. Scott was joined by longtime friend and local community member, Terry Williams. As the spring semester continues, the Shooting Club continues to generate traction and interest amongst the student body. Part of its growth has been as a result of the club's work with the county in appealing for Fridays to be open at the host, facility Volusia County Skeet & Trap Club. The students' wishes were granted starting with the spring 2013 semester; the club is open for exclusive use of university shooting club on Fridays. For more information on joining the Shooting Club please contact president, Ryan Stanford, If you'd like to contribute and help the shooting club reach its endowment goal, please see our page on university giving. |
