Hunter Douglas is a freshman marketing major from
New Smyrna Beach, Florida. Douglas competes in the ladies division for the Surf
Club here at Stetson University. Earlier this month, Douglas competed in her
first NSSA competition and according to Douglas, “NSSA
is a new contest for me. It goes a lot faster than the contests I am used to.
There are so many different colleges that have a bunch of girls competing.”
At the NSSA contest, Douglas competed as the only
girl surfer for Stetson and held her own. Douglas said, “Being the only girl from Stetson competing definitely put
some pressure on my performance, but for my first heat, I put forth all I been
training for and was able to place second.” With her second place finish,
Douglas was able to advance to the next heat of the competition. In that second
heat she placed first and qualified for the finals. In the final heat, Douglas
finished fifth, starting the season off with an excellent showing. The one
thing that Douglas remembers from the competition was “the support of my fellow
Stetson Surf Team peers and friends.”
