In their season opener on February 5, the Stetson Men’s
Lacrosse team fell short against Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in front
of a rowdy crowd of excited students and supporters. Stetson was up early in
the first quarter after a hat trick by David Wadsworth who scored the first
three goals of the game and of the 2011 season. The Hatters held Embry-Riddle
scoreless in the first quarter, going into the second quarter with a 3-0 lead. The
Eagles responded quickly with four quick goals. With eight minutes left in the
first half and the rain coming down, Embry-Riddle had taken the lead with a
score of 5-3. They held Stetson scoreless in the second quarter and scored
seven of their nine goals in the second quarter alone. The halftime score from
Rinker Field was 7-3. Phil Jabornik got the Hatters back on the board in the
third with his first goal of the day on a breakaway. Grant Phillips followed
lead with another quick goal in the third putting the Hatters within two. The Eagles
scored one more goal in the third making the score 8-5 leading into the fourth
quarter. The Hatters didn’t score another goal and the Eagles put one more on the
board for a final score of 9-5. The Hatters (0-1) will play at Florida Gulf
Coast University in Ft. Myers, FL on Saturday, Feb. 12th at 2:00pm.
