Stetson Men's Lacrosse hosted the Florida International University Panthers on a beatiful, Saturday afternoon on Feb. 19th. FIU jumped out early with the first goal of the game, but the Hatters didn't allow them to lead for long. Phil Jabonik scored the first goal for Stetson with the assist from Brandon Esposito making it even at one goal a piece. Within the last three minutes of the first quarter, FIU scored two goals to finish the quarter, regaining the lead with a score of 3-1. The Panthers came back out in the second quarter dominating the Hatters. With 9:57 remaining in the first half, FIU led with a score of 5-1, while holding Stetson scoreless. Another quick goal followed for the Panters at the 8:32 mark which would be their last goal of the first half going into halftime with a lead of 6-1.
FIU scored the first two goals of the third quarter with 9:07 left. However, they couldn't keep Stetson quiet for long. David Wadsworth scored the second goal of the day for the Hatters with 4:15 left in the quarter. The Hatters upped their defense and held the Panters for the rest of the quarter while Grant Phillips made a goal just nine seconds before the third quarter ended going into the final quarter trailing the Panters 9-3. The fourth quarter was all FIU. They scored the final four goals in the fourth to make the final score from Rinker Field 13-3.
Stetson Men's Lacrosse will play Saturday, Feb. 26th at 12:00 pm against the Jacksonville Lacrosse Club, a member of the Florida Lacrosse League. Stetson Club Sports will be partnering with Saturday Programs to hold the first Lax-Fest Tailgate on Saturday from 12:00-4:00pm. Following the men's game, Lady Hatter Lacrosse will play Palm Beach Atlantic University at 3:00 pm. Come out and enjoy a great day of lacrosse on Rinker Field.
