Stetson Men's Lacrosse hosted Jacksonville Lacrosse Club on Saturday, February 26th as the first game in Lax Fest. Both teams were on the board early in the game. David Wadsworth scored the final goal of the first quarter making the score tied at 4. The second quarter was back and forth with the goals. David Wadsworth scored 2 goals to earn a hat trick in the first half. Phil Jabornik also scored for the Hatters in the second quarter going into halftime trailing Jacksonville 9-7.
Brendan Oxnard opened up the third quarter with a goal and Grant Philips followed tying the game at 9. Jacksonville Lacrosse Club scored two more goals in the third quarter leading the Hatters 11-10. Grant Philips scored again in the fourth quarter to get the Hatters within 1 with 6:09 left in the game making the score 12-11. David Wadsworth tied the game at 12 with 5 minutes remaining. The defense sharpened up for the next three minutes. Jacksonville took the lead with a goal with 1:57 left in the game. With the intensity high, the Hatters continued to fight back. Brendan Oxnard scored for the Hatters with ten seconds left in the game to send the game into sudden death overtime! After a scoreless four minutes of overtime the Hatters battled Jacksonville in the second overtime, playing the best they've played all season. Unfortunately, Jacksonville scored ending the game with the final goal of the day making the score 13-12 in the most exciting game of the season.
Stetson Men's Lacrosse will take on the Tampa Bay Thunder on Sunday, Feb. 27th at Sylvan Lake Park in Sanford. The next home game will be on Saturday, March 5th against the University of Tampa.
