Lady Hatter Lacrosse opened their 2012 season on Saturday, February 11th at home on Rinker Field. The team hosted the FGCU Eagles for a 5:00pm game. This gave the team a chance to play under the new lights surrounding the field and it was the first game with the new, black fence.
The Eagles came out strong from the beginning. After winning the first draw, they went down the field and scored their first goal of the game. The chilly, winter weather made its way in as the sun went down. It was a cool 64 degrees on the field as FGCU dominated the first half. The Hatters didn't get many shots on goal during the first and went into halftime down 14-0 against the Eagles.
The defense did pick up in the second half and the Hatters got on the board with a goal by Julia Nagle, her first of the season, with eight minutes remaining in the game. The Hatters only allowed seven goals in the second half, but the Eagles defeated the Hatters by a score of 21-1.
The Lady Hatters continue to improve and look forward to traveling to USF on Sunday, Feb. 19th to play against the Bulls in Tampa.
