Over the weekend the Stetson Aikido Club traveled to Tuscaloosa, Alabama to participate in an annual USYBA clinic. At the event, there was an eight hour training session where, Mark Burton of Stetson learned new techniques, such as submission holds and take downs. While learning these new techniques the history of the art was discussed and gave a new insight into the club. One thing Mark said about the experience was that “Aikido is a life-long art” and seeing people hone in on their skills after decades of practice was interesting to see. “The club is not about the skill you have, it is about being willing to learn and practice and refine your skills constantly” said Burton after the clinic. Watching black belts being told that they were preforming techniques wrong and being correct by the club coach was an eye opening experience.
