The
Stetson Surf Club entered the NSSA Contest #4 on Sunday of this past weekend
and had a great showing. Surf Club President Willie Lane said, "The waves
were a little disorganized in the morning but shaped up for heats later in the
day forming some nice chest high waves."
In their 4th contest the hatters
had six members competing, three for men's shortboard, one women's shortboard,
and two men's longboard. The Hatters were joined by fellow students to enjoy
the beautiful sunny weather at the beach which helped inspired the team.
Willie Lane in the men's
shortboard won his first heat but was unable to advance past the semifinal heat
placing 4th. Cole Simpson took 6th in the final for men's shortboard with an
impressive semifinal heat linking together some nice turns for a solid score to
put him into the final. Both Charlie Lane and Roth Allen surfed well in the
men's longboard and placed 5th and 7th respectively. Hunter Douglas and Danny
Moscato both surfed really well too and overall it was a great event for the Stetson
Surf team. The team is continuing to improve each event.
Their next event will be during
the school break on January 6th, but the Hatters will look to have local surfer
still compete.
