The Stetson football team will hold its final scrimmage of August on Saturday night. The scrimmage was originially scheduled to be held at Spec Martin Memorial Stadium, but has been moved to the Athletics Training Center because of rain.

The scrimmage will cap a day full of events that started at 10 a.m. with a ribbon cutting ceremony at the stadium. The scheduled pep rally prior to the scrimmage has also been cancelled.

The scrimmage is scheduled to get started at 7 p.m. and is scheduled to include more than 100 plays.

“We were really looking forward to going under the lights at Spec Martin Stadium,” Hatters coach Roger Hughes said. “Since our first games will be at night, it is important for us to get out there and get our bearings because the lights are different at every venue.”

With the change of venue, the team will still travel to Spec Martin for a dry run on pregame warmups.

Hughes said one of the primary objectives of the evening will be to get the players past some of the excitement of being on the game field.

“There are going to be a ton of distractions and a lot of excitement next Saturday for the first game,” Hughes said. “We want the players to go through some of that tonight so that next weekend they will know what they are doing.”

Like the first two scrimmages, Saturday session will open with special teams periods that will including punting and kickoff scenarios. After that, the scrimmage will include the first team offense against the first defense, twos against twos and threes against threes. The team will also go through some overtime scenarios as well as two minute drills.

Following Saturday’s scrimmage, the Hatters will have a light workout on Sunday before taking Monday as their regular weekly off day. Practice will resume on Tuesday at 7 a.m. as the team prepares for the first Stetson football game in 57 years.

Single-game tickets for the Hatters opener against Warner University will also go on sale Monday. The few remaining student season tickets will also be available, but only about 100 of those remained as of Friday.
