The Stetson lacrosse team (0-2) continues its seven-game home stand to start the 2013 season on Sunday, hosting UC Davis (0-1) at the Athletic Training Center. The Hatters and the Aggies are scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m.
Stetson has opened its inaugural season with two home losses to Liberty and San Diego State. The results haven't been what any player, coach, or team is looking for, but first year head coach Nicole Moore knows there is more to building a program than getting early win.
"We're not getting the results that we want quite yet, but we do have our goals of developing this program, and the individuals within the program," Moore said. "The team has done a wonderful job embracing that and going after it.
"The most noticeable positive is the fact that our team isn't giving up," Moore went on to say. "They have each other's back, there's that solidarity to the team, and for a program that has only been alive for less than a year, to see that makes me very proud as a coach."
The Hatters welcome UC Davis to DeLand in the third of seven straight home games to start the season. The Aggies finished 2012 with an overall record of 6-10 and were 2-5 in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation season. UC Davis opened this year on Friday, falling at Florida by a score of 16-4.
Sophomore Samantha Akl leads the Hatters with two goals so far this season, while freshmen Melanie Fredericks and Paige Levesque have each tallied one through just two games in 2013. Freshmen Whitney Meyers and Caili Guilday have shared time in goal, recording 14 and three saves, respectively.
A live stream of Sunday's game will be available on HatterVision. Live Stats at GoHatters.com, the @StetsonLacrosse Twitter feed, and Hat-Alerts will also be available for in-game updates.
