Nicole Moore, who was named the first women’s lacrosse head coach at Stetson University in December of 2011, will no longer be at the helm of program.

Moore left the team in late March due to a family medical emergency.

During her time at Stetson, Moore worked to lay the groundwork for establishing a new Division I lacrosse program. She found success in recruiting athletes to the program from all over the country.

“I want to thank Dr. Wendy Libby and Jeff Altier for the opportunity to begin the legacy of women’s lacrosse at Stetson University, and for their support,” Moore said. “I especially want to thank my assistants, Brittany Dipper and Mitch VanSumeren, and all of the staff at Stetson.

“I also want to thank the scholar-athletes of the Stetson lacrosse program. It is the collective hard work and dedication of all of these people that has put Stetson lacrosse on the map. I wish the team great success.”

During the Hatters’ inaugural season in 2013, the team posted a pair of victories in Atlantic Sun Conference play, earning a berth into the league’s championship tournament. This spring the team has competed against one of the most challenging schedules in the nation.

“Nicole has been a valuable member of the Stetson University athletic department,” Hatters Director of Athletics Jeff Altier said. “She was critically important as we developed women’s lacrosse as an intercollegiate sport. We will be forever grateful for her contributions to the development of Stetson lacrosse.”

The Stetson Lacrosse team began its five-game A-Sun schedule at Kennesaw State on Saturday. The Hatters have three remaining home games on the 2014 schedule, with dates against Jacksonville (April 12), Elon (April 25) and Howard (April 27) in addition to a road game at Detroit (April 19).

The search for a new coach will begin immediately.
