The Stetson lacrosse team (0-1) returns to action this Sunday playing host to San Diego State (0-0) in the second of seven straight home games to start its inaugural season.  The first draw between the Hatters and the Aztecs is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. at the Athletic Training Center.

Stetson opened its first ever season of lacrosse in dramatic style last Sunday, as freshman Melanie Fredericks scored the first goal in program history less than 10 minutes into play against Liberty.  The Hatter lead was short lived, but with two more goals from sophomore Samantha Akl and a number of other positives, Stetson was excited about moving forward after the opener.

"It was quite interesting to have to watch the game being streamed live since I was stranded from the winter blizzard that hit the Northeast," Stetson head coach Nicole Moore said. "I definitely saw a first year program out there on the field. Some of our decision making was not strong and we definitely went in waves with our consistency. These are all things that we will continue to strengthen, and as our team plays more together throughout this season, those changes will occur. It is always a very special moment for the first game, as it is a game of recorded firsts, no matter what the outcome of the game is."

San Diego State opens its season today, making the trip across the country to play a pair of games in the Sunshine State.  The Aztecs, who were 5-10 overall and 2-5 in the MPSF last season, will play at Jacksonville on Saturday before making the trip down to DeLand to challenge the Hatters. SDSU returns its top four starters from 2012, including Maris Walsh, who totaled 47 goals a year ago.

"SDSU is a newer program with a year of experience under their belts," Moore said. "I respect the coaching staff and their abilities, and I foresee a good competitive game on Sunday."

A live video stream for Sunday's game will be available on HatterVision.  Live Stats, the @StetsonLacrosse Twitter feed, and Hat-Alerts are also available for in-game updates.  Be sure to check out the Stetson University Women's Lacrosse Facebook page for an inside look at this first year program.

"We spoke as a team about our mentality and what it is like out there during the first game," Moore concluded. "We are working on our communication within all facets of the game, as well as our settled attack and defense. For me personally, it will be great to be on the sidelines again with our team."
