DELAND, Fla. – The Stetson University lacrosse team will bring its regular season to a close this weekend as it hosts A-Sun opponents Elon and Howard at the Athletic Training Center. The Hatters (1-14, 1-2) will be playing for a spot in the A-Sun Tournament as they currently sit in fourth place, having yet to clinch a spot in the four team tournament. Stetson will begin its final home stand, Friday, Apr. 25th, with a game against A-Sun newcomer Elon, at 4 p.m.

2014 marks the first year of competition for Elon’s lacrosse program, and it enters the contest having played quite well in its inaugural season. The Phoenix have already clinched a spot in the A-Sun Tournament with a 3-0 conference mark and a 7-7 overall record, good enough to put them in a tie for first place in the conference.

Following Friday’s game, Stetson will finish out its regular season slate with a match-up against Howard, scheduled for 1 p.m., Sunday the 27th in DeLand. The Hatters and Bison met up last season in Washington, D.C., with Stetson coming out on top for its second A-Sun win of the year. It will look to repeat the feat in 2014 as it has already done with Kennesaw State this season (its other conference win in 2013). Howard currently sits in last place in the A-Sun with a 1-12 overall record and an 0-3 mark in the conference, with a game at Jacksonville on Friday before its match-up with the Hatters.

Goal Keeper Caili Guilday will look to finish the regular season as the nation’s leader in saves and saves per game average. The sophomore has an NCAA best 179 total saves and an average of 11.93 per contest.

As for the offensive statistics, it will come down to the final weekend to decide the overall points champion for Stetson this season. After 15 games, sophomore Danielle Horgan leads all Hatters with 24 (15 goals, 9 assists), while freshman Christina Loya is right behind her with 22 (17 goals, 5 assists). Ana Baranowski is not too far off the chase with 18 points off of her 13 goals and five assists.

When it comes to the A-Sun Tournament chase, the Owls of Kennesaw State enter the weekend on the outside looking in as KSU is currently in fifth place (1-12, 1-3). It is important to note that Stetson owns a tiebreaker against the Owls, should the two schools finish the season with identical conference records. The Hats already beat Kennesaw this season, 23-21 in overtime, back on Apr. 5 in Georgia.

Friday and Sunday’s game are free for fans to attend and those that can't make it out to the ATC can watch on HatterVision or follow via Live Stats on The @StetsonLacrosse Twitter feed and Hat-Alerts are also available for in-game updates as well.
