DeLand, Fla.The Stetson softball team’s earned run average remained a perfect 0.00 on the season, but the Hatters (3-2) simply had no answers for Kent State pitcher Kylie Reynolds on Sunday in a 1-0 nine-inning loss in the Stetson Leadoff Classic championship game at Patricia Wilson Field.  Reynolds tossed a no-hitter and struck out 18 Stetson hitters for the Golden Flashes (4-1).  Stetson junior pitcher Amanda Lindsey (Byhalia, Miss.) gave up just one unearned run on three hits and no walks and notched a career-high 14 strikeouts.

Senior first baseman Andrea Migliori (Winter Garden, Fla.) and junior catcher Jessica Lokeinsky (Cooper City, Fla.) were the only Hatters to reach base before the international tie breaker rule took effect, walking twice and once, respectively.

In the bottom of the ninth, Kent State (the designated home team) loaded the bases with nobody out after Lindsey unsuccessfully attempted to throw pinch runner Lauren Brocklehurst out at third base on a bunt and an infield single by center fielder Leah Archual.  The next batter, left fielder Holly Finchum, hit a slow chopper to the right side of the infield; freshman second baseman Heather Barnes (Avon Park, Fla.) fired home to Lokeinsky but Brocklehurst slid in safely before the ball reached the glove to win the game for the Golden Flashes.

Lindsey struck out the side in the fourth inning en route to her 14 Ks while Reynolds did the same in the third and the fifth for Kent State.  Reynolds got 18 of 27 outs via the strikeout today and finished her opening weekend 3-0 with a 0.00 ERA and a staggering 47 Ks in 26.0 IP.  Lindsey struck out 28 batters on the weekend in 20 innings while senior Erica Demers (Miami, Fla.) had 23 Ks in 16 innings.  The Hatters have yet to allow an earned run and have given up just one total run in regulation.

In the consolation game earlier today, Texas State defeated Bethune-Cookman 7-2.  The Bobcats improved to 2-3 on the season while the Wildcats dropped to 1-4.

Stetson is back in action next weekend for the Hatter Invitational, featuring Albany and Bethune-Cookman.  The Hatters take on the Great Danes and the Wildcats at 4 and 6:30 p.m. respectively Friday and Saturday and then face the same teams in the same order at 10 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Sunday.  Jamie Bataille calls all the action on Hatter Vision; Live Stats will also be available at the official online home of Stetson Athletics, www.GoHatters.com.
