What's happening in Club Sports...
|
May 22, 2012
It's been anything but quiet in the Club Sports Office the past few weeks. It's been a lot like having a birthday, getting multiple packages per week with all of the items that you clubs purhcased with your remaining funding from this year. With the next year, let's try to get the money spent earlier in the year though and plan out purhcases more evenly throughout the year :) Hopefully everyone is into their summer routine by now though, either working, interning, or settled into some summer classes. Whatever you are doing, stay safe and make sure if you're outside lots, wear sunscreen.
Planning for next year has already commenced with updated budget worksheets and trainings for officers in the fall. Our Men's Soccer Club is already getting their schedule set for the fall! Short post today as things are starting to slow down now.

Thank you again to all of the club members that
attended the Inaugural Club Sports Banquet last week. If you missed it, you
missed all of the clubs being honored on their hard work this year. The Club
Sports Office did give out five awards to clubs and the winners of those awards
were: Outstanding Service Award-Equestrian, Top Fundraiser-Shooting, Most
Improved Club-Women’s Lacrosse, Rookie Club of the Year-D.A.N.C.E., Club of the
Year-Ultimate Frisbee. Club officers should also remember to be working and finishing
up their End of the Year Reports as those are due to clubsports@stetson.edu by Wednesday,
May 2nd.
It’s been a crazy fun-filled year for the Club
Sports program and all of the Clubs have done some great things this past year.
As new officers are transitioned in and settling into their roles, it’s
important to keep the passion and fire you have alive and to start planning for
the Fall and recruiting new club members when everyone returns in the August.
Also, this week will be Kendra’s last week in
the office before she heads off to her new position with UCF. We wish her all
the best and she deserves a ton of thanks for the amazing job she’s done
building up the Club Sports program. She will be missed, but she’s left a great
foundation for the program. Good Luck Kendra and visit often.
We hope everyone rocks their finals and has
awesome summer plans. I will be here through the summer training our new GA and
getting things prepared to hit the ground running with more leadership
development opportunities and trainings for officers.

Welcome back Hatters! Hope you had a great, relaxing spring break!
We are getting back into the swing of things over here in club sports after a very quiet week last week. Can you believe there are only seven weeks left before classes end? How is that even possible? There are a lot of important dates coming up in April, so officers, make sure you're checking your emails often!
This weekend our men's and women's lacrosse teams will be hosting Florida Atlantic University on Rinker Field. The men's game is first at 1pm and the women's game will follow at 3pm. Come out and support the Hatters and watch some great lax, it's supposed to be a beautiful day! After the games, don't forget to head down to downtown DeLand to hit up Hatterpalooza! You can buy your tickets in advance through Hatter Productions, so make sure you do so!
In other news, we are excited to announce that we've added our 17th club sport! A big shout out to the Tri Hats triathlon club! If you're interested in joining or want more information, shoot an email to Rob Pruette at rpruette@stetson.edu and the club coach Ben Collins at bccollin@stetson.edu.
Have a wonderful week and hope to see you out at Rinker Field on Saturday!

It's Leap Day! The last day of February... where is this spring semester going?
Our clubs have been busy the past week. Three of them were in action this past weekend, traveling on the road. The Swim Club participated in their first competitive event ever! We are so excited that our clubs are taking the first step to participate in these kind of events and competitions. You have to begin somewhere! Two members of the Swim Club headed over to Orlando to take part in the UCF Knightmare Invitational. They had a great time and look forward to more swim meets and duals in the coming semesters. Several members of the Ultimate Club headed to Palm Bay to take part in their first hatter tournament. They were split up and put on separate teams. This gave them a chance to meet other players, learn the lingo, and just play all day. They really enjoyed it and are hoping that more members of the club can participate in hatter tournaments. Our women's lacrosse team headed south to take on the Sailfish of Palm Beach Atlantic University. Their next game will be on March 17th which is a home double header with the men's lacrosse team against Florida Atlantic University! Make sure you come out to Rinker Field to support them!
Spring break is right around the corner (2 more days! but who's counting?), so our clubs are taking a much needed week long break to relax, have fun, and stay safe, of course. We'll return to action on March 12th with a full slate of events and competitions to wrap up the rest of the semester. Don't forget to catch us on Facebook and Twitter in the meantime for more frequent updates! Also, the new Stetson Today has launched! Check it out!

Happy Fat Tuesady everyone! Our clubs have been very busy the past few weeks! Let me catch you up to speed. On Saturday, Feb. 11th, the women's lacrosse club hosted FGCU on Rinker Field for a 5pm game under the lights with our nice, new fence. They lost, but had a good first showing for their first game of the season. Sunday, Feb. 12th was a busy day, the men's lacrosse team played two games up in Tallahassee against the Tomahawks of the Florida Lacrosse League (FLL) and the Equestrian Club had their first show to date hosted by the University of Florida Equestrian Club. The Surf Club headed out to NSB, but decided it was way to cold to compete in the NSSA Competition since the temps were in the 30s and 40s, rightfully so. Fast forward to Thursday and the women's lacrosse team got to host the Scottish National Lacrosse team during their tour of Central Florida. It was great for the team to host a team from another country. They were able to hang out afterwards and grab some grub and talk lax. This past weekend was also jam packed. The men's lacrosse team hosted a three game tournament on Rinker Field with Hogtowne and the Orlando Geckos, both members of the FLL. Hatter Productions and Club Sports sponsored the second annual Lax Fest out on Rinker with BBQ from Free-Wil BBQ. It was delicious. The men's lacrosse team lost both of their games, but overall it was a fun day of lax. Meanwhile, the Tennis Club headed to Altamonte Springs to compete in the USTA Tennis On Campus Florida Championships and had a great showing there. Sunday, the women's lacrosse team headed over to USF to take on the Bulls. They ended up getting beat, but put 5 goals on the board. This weekend our women's lacrosse team is traveling down to Palm Beach Atlantic University to play the Sailfish, the SUBLIME Ultimate team is playing in the Space Coast Ultimate tournament, and the Swim Club is heading over to UCF to take part in their Knightmare Invitational. Good luck to all our clubs!!
Tomorrow, February 22nd is National Recreational Sports & Fitness Day... get out there and be active! Enjoy this beautiful Florida weather we're having!
Until next time Hatters...

How is everyone feeling on this Monday following Superbowl
XLVI? Congrats to all you Giants fans out there! Let the countdown to opening
kickoff 2012 begin!
As for club news. On Saturday, the Aikido Club hosted a clinic on campus in
Rinker Fieldhouse to certify members of their club. It was great for the club
to have all of their members there at the same time as practice times aren’t
always optimal for everyone. It’s great that our clubs are getting out there
and hosting on campus events outside of their normal practice time!
Sunday, the Ultimate Frisbee club headed over to Daytona to
play a game against Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. They won 15-10! We love to see our clubs travel and play against other teams... and win!
We have a full slate of activities set for this weekend ahead. On Saturday, the women's lacrosse club is hosting FGCU on Rinker Field at 5pm. That means that the game will be played under the new lights, how sweet is that? Sunday, our men's lacrosse club is traveling up to Tallahassee to play against the Tallahasse Tomahawks and the Jacksonville Armadillos, members of the Florida Lacrosse League (FLL). The Equestrian Club is also heading up to Gainesville to compete in the Western Show hosted by the University of Florida. Lastly, the Stetson Surf Club is heading over to their home beach in New Symrna, Bethune Beach, to compete in the NSSA collegiate surf competition. If you're in any of these areas, stop by so you can cheer on your Hatters! We'll keep you posted on the results of each of these competitions!
Feel free to stop by the club sports office to say hi! Enjoy this wonderful weather and go outside and play!
Have a wonderful week!

and on campus in general. If you’ve been living under a rock all semester, you
may not know that Stetson has a new mascot! Welcome John B.! You can follow

Men’s and Women’s Lacrosse seasons are underway and both are
slated for a full schedule of games this spring! We’ll let you know each week
when and where the team is playing so you can come out and support your
Hatters! Ultimate Frisbee also has a few games lined up this semester with
Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, including on this Sunday in Daytona. Good
luck to them! The Aikido Club is hosting a clinic here on campus this Saturday.
Members of the club will get certified by the USYBA in Rinker Fieldhouse in the
Hollis Center. Be sure to stop by and watch if you are in the Hollis Center on
Saturday during the day.
If you are new to campus this semester and want to get more
involved, or just have questions, go ahead and email clubsports@stetson.edu. We can set you

TGIF,
Hope everyone is enjoying their gloomy friday. The Men's Club Soccer regular season has come to a close with their final results for their inagural season in the NIRSA Region 2 league. The boys finished with a record of 0-6-1 but their spirits are hopeful as they look toward the off-season to improve and schedule more exhibition games against new clubs like themselves.
Club Sports is really reaching all over the map this weekend. Memebers of the Aikdio Club left today for Alabama to participate in a national conference with other clubs from the Southeast. The Shooting Club will be competing in the Southeast Fall Invitational Shoot up in Jacksonville, FL tomorrow, and the Men's Lacrosse team will host Embry Riddle in an exhibition match on Rinker Field. The lacrosse game is set to kick off at 1pm so come out to support your fellow Hatters and watch some exciting action.
If you're not currently involved in Club Sports, we're growing and looking to add a few new clubs. The clubs that are in the process of getting started are: Fishing, Wrestling, Paintball, and Women's Soccer. For more information on these clubs getting started email clubsports@stetson.edu to get pointed in the right direction for who is leading the charge.
For live updates from the exhibition match tomorrow make sure to stay tuned in on Twitter and follow us @SUCLUBSPORTS.

It What a week(end) to bring us to this wet and slow Monday. Last week on wednesday the Men's Lacrosse team played a scrimmage against Embry Riddle Aronautical University at ERAU. The team lost 14-0 but showed considerable improvements from last season and expects to get their first win by early spring season. The Men's Club Soccer team also traveled to south Florida over the weekend to play FAU, Miami, and Lynn. You can check out a recap of those games in this story.
Although it's a short week due to Fall Break, the Surf Club will be taking no time off and surfing in their first NSSA competition of the year on Sunday at Bethune Beach. If you're in town you should stop by to check out an exciting sport where you can really multitask by soaking up the sun too.
For you ladies out there, Roxana Lemus and Valeria Guadalupe are trying to start up a Women's Club Soccer team. If you are interested please email one or both of these women so they can get you more info as the club forms and hopefully becomes an official Club Sport!
Club members need not to forget, if you haven't filled out your Emergency Medical Information or Club Sports Waiver on OrgSync, then you should not be participating in any club activities!!! It's super easy, you can do it from any computer, tablet, or smart phone, so you have no excuse not to get it done! Stop reading this and fill it out!
Stay dry, stay classy, and enjoy the short week!

It has been quite busy in the Club Sports office since the start of the semester. Most of the clubs are up and running and are very busy themselves! Officer Training was a great success, as well as the make-up session, so all club officers should feel confident in their responsiblities for the year, but we are still here to help if a question or concern arises. Clubs are already "Racing for the Cup" by earning points, if you haven't started, get on it!
We are happy to announce our newest club sport: the Stetson Dolls Dance Team! That brings our total of club sports to 16 (wow!). The Tennis Club competed at Florida State University last weekend up in Tallahassee, so be sure to check out their recap article on how they did! The Men's Lacrosse club has already started scheduling their games for the spring in both the Florida Lacrosse League (FLL) and the Southeastern Lacrosse Conference (SELC) and they are starting fall ball practice this week! Make sure you are a fan of Stetson Club Sports on Facebook (Like us here!) or follow us on Twitter @SUClubSports to get all the most up to date information!
Don't forget, if you haven't filled out your Emergency Medical Information or Club Sports Waiver on OrgSync, then you should not be participating in any club activities! It's super easy, you can do it from any computer, tablet, or smart phone, so you have no excuse not to get it done!
Also, if you have filled out your forms & paid your dues, come by Edmunds Center 114 to pick up your Club Sports t-shirt!
Until next time... Have a great week & weekend!

What a weekend! We wrapped up last
week with Officer Training on Friday and wow was that a lot of info. All club officers
need to remember to fill out BOTH the Club Sports Waiver and Club Sports
Emergency Contact Info Forms on OrgSync. Also make sure to manage your
membership on OrgSync and make sure that all of your members are filling out the
correct forms. NO ONE SHOULD BE PARTICIPATING BEFORE FILLING OUT THESE
FORMS!
On Saturday the newest Club Sport, Men's Club Soccer, hosted both UF and FGCU in matches on Rinker Field. There was a good turnout from students and the team remained competitve against both teams despite losing both matches. With the week ahead make sure to stay in contact with your club officers to stay posted about practice times and upcoming events or games.
On the horizon in the near future there could be the start of a women's club soccer team as well so stay tuned in for that information and if this interests you specifically please shoot an email to us at clubsports@stetson.edu so we can start gathering the interest.
**Remember once you've paid your club dues you get an awesome Club Sports T-Shirt for FREE! Come by Edmunds Center Room 114 to pick it up. Everyone have a great week of classes and club sports and we'll be back later this week to give more updates and information.

August 26, 2011
Hi everyone, Kendra
and Michael are going to start
blogging about what’s going on in Club Sports. Add us to your reader or just
check-in weekly to see what’s new. We’re going to try our best to have a weekly
recap every week on Friday, so here we go...
Summer has come to a
crashing halt this week with the start
of classes and syllabi being handed out. Club Sports was working all summer to
get things prepared and hopefully make things a little easier for you guys
(students). We’ve gone digital with all
of our forms and files located in OrgSyc so if you’re not on there yet, DO IT.
Hop on and login and join some clubs. This will be a big resource for all clubs
and mainly a focal point for officers. We’ll cover more useful tips in training
for the officers on Friday, September 9th, 3-6pm
in the LBC Auditorium.
Other additions to club
sports from the summer time include
our awesome welcome page on Facebook. If you already “LIKE US”, awesome, if you
don’t, get to it and “LIKE US”. Our Facebook and Twitter are great ways to keep
updated with what’s going on and we’ll even post live updates from on-campus
competitions
so make sure your following us to get tuned in on all the action.
Another big update is
that Kendra and I are toying with the
idea of a points system and the best way to set it up and implement it. All the
active clubs this year will be earning lots of points all year long for things
like community service events, attending club events, and hosting or traveling
to competitions or events. At the end of the year we’ll select one club that
stands out from the rest and has been an All-Star club and they’ll be awarded
the inaugural 2011-2012 “Race for the Cup” Trophy. This thing is awesome, so
get ready to have some healthy competition. If you have any input on the points
system, please let us know, as this year is the beta version for future years.
Well that’s all for now
guys and be sure to stay in the loop
with what’s going on and how to get involved in Club Sports. With so many new
faces and talents on campus, Club Sports has gotten a wide range of new sports
interest including Men’s Rugby, Women’s Dance Team, Men’s and Women’s
Basketball, Fencing, Women’s Soccer and much much more. If you’re interest in
starting a club come see Kendra or Michael and we can talk further.
TGIF and enjoy your first weekend on campus!
