Charleston, S.C. - The Stetson men's golf team moved up two spots on the leaderboard in the final round of the Charleston Shootout on Tuesday at The Links at Stono Ferry, jumping from eighth place to sixth at the end of competition.  Senior Gabe Costa (Tequesta, Fla.) tied for fifth place overall at even par while sophomore Micah Jacobsen (Fernandina Beach, Fla.) was the low Hatter on the day with a one under par 71.

Jacobsen was the highest riser on the individual leaderboard in the 75-golfer field for Round 3, using his 71 to sail from 41st place to a tie for 22nd at +6 by the end of the day.  Costa's two over par 74 allowed him to finish in a fifth-place tie with Baylor's Ryan O'Rear at even par 216 for 54 holes, seven strokes behind medalist Jacobo Pastor of Charleston Southern.  Campbell's Vaita Guillaume took second at -6 with the Baylor duo of Jerry Ruiz (-5) and Joakim Mikkelsen (-2) taking third and fourth, respectively.

For Stetson, redshirt junior Michael Stewart (New Smyrna Beach, Fla.) carded a 74 to tie for 33rd place while juniors Sam Ryder (Longwood, Fla.) and Andrew Schiano (Orlando, Fla.) each shot six over par 78 in Tuesday's final round.

Stetson came in at 24 over par 888 for the tournament, 32 strokes behind runaway winner Baylor (-8).  The Bears won by 14 strokes over College of Charleston (+6) with Radford (+15), Campbell (+17) and Charleston Southern (+22) also edging the Hatters.  Rounding out the 15-team field this week were Longwood (+27), USC Upstate (+32), Gardner-Webb (+33), High Point (+38), Newberry (+39), Villanova (+42), Presbyterian (+53), Western Kentucky (+58) and Navy (+66).

Up next for the Hatters will be the Barefoot at the Beach Intercollegiate, hosted by Appalachian State March 6-8 in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
