Roger Idstrom recently completed his second season on the Stetson University men's basketball coaching staff in 2012-13. After joining the Hatter staff in May of 2011, Idstrom was promoted to Associate Head Coach in July of 2012.
"Roger is an integral part of our basketball program, and this is a way to publically recognize his value," Alexander said of Idstrom's promotion. "He deserves this recognition because of his commitment to making this program excel in every area."
Idstrom, who works primarily with the perimeter players on the court, shares all of the recruiting, coaching, and scouting responsibilities with the rest of the staff. He works directly with Coach Alexander on scheduling and is the primary contact for all campus related items, including admissions and housing.
Idstrom came to Stetson from Belmont, where he served on a staff with Coach Alexander. He was involved with scouting, recruiting, video exchange and oversaw academic matters for the Bruins.
Under Idstrom's leadership in the latter endeavor, Belmont men's basketball was one of the nation's highest-performing teams in the classroom with several Academic All-American players. Idstrom spent 11 years at Belmont and helped guide the Bruins to four Atlantic Sun Conference championships and NCAA Tournament appearances.
A 1989 graduate of Mars Hill College, Idstrom spent time on staff at his alma mater as well as at UNC Asheville, Montreat, and Wabash Valley College before going to Gardner-Webb from 1998-2000. Gardner-Webb went 25-5 in 1999-00 and made the NCAA Division II tournament for the first time in school history.
Idstrom and his wife Jennifer have twin sons, Dane and Logan.
Head Coach Casey Alexander on Roger Idstrom
"When Stetson became a reality for me, the first thing I did was call Roger to see if he would come along. Roger will play a significant role in every decision we make on and off the floor; he is someone I totally trust and to have someone I've already worked with for 11 years will prove invaluable. Roger is an excellent worker, highly organized and always ready to do his part no matter what the task."
