DeLand, Fla. - Perennially high achievers in the
classroom as well as on the courts, the Stetson men's tennis team was named an
Intercollegiate Tennis Association All-Academic Team on Wednesday with seven
Hatters being named ITA Scholar-Athletes as well. In addition, rising sophomore MayaBlue
Stauffer-MacDowell (Asheville, N.C.)
and rising junior Jen Miller (Tampa,
Fla.) of the Stetson women's
tennis team claimed ITA Scholar-Athlete recognition for themselves.
ITA Scholar-Athletes must have a grade point average for the
academic year of at least 3.50 while ITA All-Academic Teams must feature a
cumulative team GPA of at least 3.20.
Stetson was one of 71 NCAA Division I men's tennis squads (out of 300+)
to receive this award; only Creighton, Dartmouth
and Mississippi State had more ITA Scholar-Athletes
honored than the Hatters.
The seven Stetson men's tennis student-athletes are recent
graduates Cesare Gallo '11 (Portogruaro, Italy), Alex Hackett '11 (Surrey,
England), rising seniors Maksim Levanovich (Minsk, Belarus), Dane Moran
(Morpeth, Australia) and Njal Stene (Oslo, Norway), rising junior Erik Halaj
(Hoover, Ala.) and rising sophomore Hans Adrian Riseng (Oslo, Norway). As a program, Stetson has now captured three
consecutive ITA All-Academic Team awards on the men's side.
