Dr. Mike Bitter, PhD, CPA, is a Stetson University accounting alumnus, having graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration in 1987.Bitter received a Master of Accountancy from the University of Florida and a Doctor of Philosophy in Accountancy from the University of Mississippi. Prior to beginning his academic career, Bitter was an auditor with the international public accounting firm of Ernst and Young, specializing in audits of healthcare entities.
In addition to serving on Stetson’s faculty since 1996 and as Stetson’s Faculty Athletics Representative (FAR) since 1999, he is also the Rinker Distinguished Professor of Accounting, Chair of the M.E. Rinker, Sr. Institute of Tax and Accountancy, and Director of the Master of Accountancy Programs. Dr. Bitter teaches auditing, accounting theory, and financial accounting/reporting at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Bitter was the School of Business Administration's Professor of the Year in 2001 and 2006 and is also a past recipient of the School's service award (2000, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2010, and 2011) and research award (1999) and the JD/MBA Golden Apple Award for teaching (2003).
As FAR, Bitter is a member of the University Athletic Committee, of the NCAA’s Division I Leadership Council and of the NCAA’s Division I Amateurism Fact-Finding Committee. He is a past member of the NCAA Division I Amateurism Cabinet and was chair of the NCAA Division I Core Course Waiver Subcommittee. He has also served on a number of committees in the Atlantic Sun Conference, including service as chair of four committees.
