Dr. Mike Bitter has served as the Stetson Athletic
Department’s Faculty Athletic Representative (FAR) since 1999.
In his role, he serves the athletic
department in a number of areas including academic policy, student welfare and
general direction. As FAR, Bitter is a member of the University Athletic
Committee and of the NCAA’s Division I Leadership Council.
He is a past member
of the NCAA Division Amateurism Cabinet and was chair of the NCAA Division I
Core Course Waiver Subcommittee. He has also served on a number of committees
in the Atlantic Sun Conference, including service as chair of four committees
Dr.
Bitter has been a professor of Accounting at Stetson since 1996. He is the Rinker Distinguished Professor of
Accounting and Chair of the M.E. Rinker, Sr. Institute of Tax and Accountancy.
Bitter was the School
of Business Administration's
Professor of the Year in 2001 and 2006 and is also a past recipient of the
School's service award (2000, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2010, and 2011) and research
award (1999) and the JD/MBA Golden Apple Award for teaching (2003).
Dr.
Bitter is a Stetson
University accounting
alumnus, having graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration in
1987. He received a Master of
Accountancy from the University of Florida and a Doctor of Philosophy in Accountancy
from the University
of Mississippi.
Prior to
beginning his academic career, Bitter was an auditor with the international
public accounting firm of Ernst and Young, specializing in audits of healthcare
entities.
Bitter
and his wife Adriana have one daughter, Camila (14).
