On Saturday, February 4th, the Aikido Club of Stetson hosted a USYBA clinic in Rinker Fieldhouse for the members of their club. Six student members and three coaches attended the clinic where they worked on more advanced techniques than they do at their normal practices. The first half of the clinic was focused on hand escapes and advance pinning techniques, while the second half involved mostly sword work and formal katas.
President Kim Crawford said, "It was a great experience to have all the members there at one time. It was also nice to have a large, open space with more mats to work out."
The club took a break for lunch, which gave them a chance to bond outside of the dojo.
This was the first USYBA clinic that the club hosted on campus. They also make their annual trip up to the University of Alabama in Birmingham during the fall semester to attend the USYBA clinic hosted there. This was a great opporutnity for the members who could not attend in the fall to be a part of the clinic.
If you are interested in joining the Aikido Club or would ilke more information, please email Kim Crawford at kcrawfor@stetson.edu. The Aikido Club practices on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6-8pm and Saturdays from 12-2pm in Night Lights, located above the Stetson Bookstore.
