DeLand, Fla. - Stetson junior guard Shanasa Sanders (Jacksonville, Fla.) has been named the Atlantic Sun Conference Women's Basketball Newcomer of the Week for the fourth time this season, the conference office announced Tuesday. Sanders averaged 14.0 points per game on 46.2 percent three-point shooting in Hatter victories over Belmont and Lipscomb last week at the Edmunds Center.
Sanders scored seven points in Thursday's 68-46 win over Belmont on Pack the House/Pink Zone Night to solidify Stetson's hold on second place in the A-Sun standings, but saved her best for Lipscomb on Saturday as she drilled five three-pointers en route to 21 points, six rebounds and three steals. Sanders shot 50 percent from distance (5-10) in the 74-59 win over the Lady Bison.
Second on the team in scoring at 13.4 points per game, Sanders also averages 4.9 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game with 36 steals and six blocked shots for the 21-6 Hatters, who are just one win away from tying the program record for wins in a season set in 2000-01.
She was previously named A-Sun Newcomer of the Week on November 29, December 13 and January 10 and holds the A-Sun record for most times so honored. The A-Sun Player of the Week laurels went to Jacksonville forward Jade Cargill.
Stetson (21-6, 12-3 Atlantic Sun) is back in action at 7:00 pm Saturday when it travels to Alico Arena in Fort Myers, Fla. for a showdown against league-leading FGCU (23-2, 15-0 A-Sun).
