Orlando, Fla. – The Stetson men’s golf team posted matching scores of six-over par 294 on Monday in the first two rounds of the UCF Rio Pinar Invitational.

The Hatters are 25 shots behind tournament leading Florida Gulf Coast, but just three shots behind Campbell and Akron for a top five finish on the Black Course at the Rio Pinar Country Club.

Stetson was led on Monday by senior Sam Ryder, whose two-under par score of 142 on the opening day leaves him within striking distance of FGCU’s Alex Medinis (-7).

The Hatters also got a solid performance on Monday from senior Andrew Schiano, who opened with an even par 72 and then had a 76 in the second round. He enters the final round on Tuesday tied for 34th.

Sophomore Tyler White bounced back from an opening round 77 with a 72 in the second round. He is tied for 43rd entering the final round.

Senior Micah Jacobsen opened with an even par 72 on Monday and followed up with a 78. He is tied for 47th. Freshman Matt Taylor opened with an 80 on Monday before posting a 77 in the second round.

The Hatters have had a busy couple of days after facing the University of Louisville on Sunday in a match play competition.

Taylor defeated Henry Tomlinson 1-up in the No. 5 spot while White bested Chris Biuso 2-up at No. 4 to give the Hatters a 2-0 lead over the Cardinals.

Louisville bounced back, however, to take the final three matches. Schiano fell to Maximilian Walz 1-up at No. 3 before Jacobson lost to Chris Malec 5 & 4. Ryder fell to Louisville senior  Justin Dorward 3 & 2 to give the Cardinals the match.
