The Club Sports program hosted their first banquet on Thursday, April 26th handing out five awards to deserving clubs and honoring the 17 club sports in 2011-2012. The banquet was held in the Stetson Room of the Carlton Union Building in the heart of the campus. Dinner was served and clubs were able to mingle with one another.
Coordinator of Club Sports, Kendra Gilbertson, and Graduate Asssitant, Michael Gonzalez, recognized the five clubs who earned awards this year. The first, Outstanding Service Award, was given to the Equestrian Club for their work with the JM Horse Rescue in DeLand, Florida. The second, Top Fundraising Club, was given to the Shooting Club, who applied for and received a grant from the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) for the second consecutive year. The third award was the Most Improved Club which was given to the Women's Lacrosse Club for their continued excellence as the year progressed. The fourth club awarded was the D.A.N.C.E. club, who joined the Club Sports line-up just this year. They received Rookie Club of the Year for getting involved the moment their club was formed. Finally, the top award of the night was the Club Sport of the Year. The Ultimate Frisbee club earned this award by excelling in every facet of the Club Sports program. From turning in paperwork on time, to communication, recruitment, retention, and competition, Ultimate went above and beyond this year. Congratulations to all clubs awarded and to all our the Club Sports for an awesome 2011-2012 academic year.
