The Stetson men's soccer team and Head Coach T. Logan Fleck
announced five newcomers to the program for the 2012 season on Monday. Travis Workman, Quinn Ebright, Doug Szoka,
Luis Arrazola, and Fabrizio Chiari will fill out a Hatters roster that includes
nine returning starters from last season's 10-5-4 team.
Workman is a native of DeLand and was a two-year captain at
nearby DeLand High. A Team MVP and
two-time All-County honoree, he will provide depth to the Stetson midfield in
2012. "Travis joined us this past spring
and gained a lot of valuable experience during that time," Fleck said. "He proved to have a very good work rate and
will vie for time as a defensive midfielder."
Ebright hails from Tampa, Fla., but comes to Stetson following a year at the University of Mary Washington. Before that, the midfielder led H.B. Plant
High to three district championships, and was named All-County Honorable
Mention. "Quinn will bring some energy
and enthusiasm into the midfield, where he will compete for time this season,"
Fleck said.
Szoka, another local product out of DeLand High, and Chiari,
who comes to Stetson from Caracas,
Venezuela, will
also add depth at midfield and upfront from the Hatters. Arrazola, meanwhile, is a goalkeeper out of Seattle, Wash.
"Szoka is a great local product with technical skills,"
Fleck said. "He shows a lot of promise
and will battle for time as both a midfielder and forward. Mainly a defensive midfielder, Chiari's noted
ability is the way he finds the correct pass coming out of the back. Luis is looking to come in as a freshman and
get some good experience, as well as push and challenge for the number one spot
in the net."
"This team is still untested and unproven," Fleck said of
the squad. "As every team has done, they
will look to go out on a higher note than the group that came before them. We
are happy to have all five newcomers on campus, and we can't wait to get
started on the 2012 campaign and open the season at national soccer power Penn State."
