Milestone for Monique
Senior Monique Russell (Phoenix, Ariz.) recorded her 1000th career dig last Saturday in the Hatters' 3-1 loss to Tennessee State. Russell, a four-year starter at the libero position, became just the 10th player in school history to reach the 1000-dig milestone.
"It was very exciting to see 'Mo' reach that milestone," Stetson head coach Tim Loesch said. "She really played well every match in the tournament."
Russell collected 75 digs over the four matches, including 28 against Jacksonville State. She has a career total of 1014 digs, just 273 shy of the Stetson school record (Melissa Roy, 1287).
Junior Ellen Hawks (Austin, Tex.) earned all-tournament team honors after collecting 36 kills and 13 blocks in the four matches. Hawks posted 11 kills against Jacksonville State, and 10 each against Alabama State and Tennessee State.
Junior Kaley Melville (New Germany, Minn.) led the Hatters with 40 kills last weekend, an average of 2.50 kills per set. She also recorded three double-double performances (10+ kills, 10+digs), giving her 21 double-doubles for her career.
A Good Start
Freshman outside hitter Cailyn Prewitt (Rocklin, Calif.) had a strong collegiate debut last weekend. In four matches, Prewitt compiled 29 kills, including 11 in the final match against Tennessee State. She ranks third on the team with 1.93 kills per set.
Stetson hosts Volusia County rival Bethune-Cookman at 7 p.m. Tuesday night.
