The Stetson men's soccer team (0-3-0) finally returns home
after a three-game road trip to start the 2012 campaign. The Hatters didn't
fare as well as they would have hoped, coming out on the wrong end at Penn
State, #9 West Virginia, and Houston Baptist to start the season. Stetson will
look to turn things around in its home and conference opener against Jacksonville (0-4-0) on
Friday at 7:00 p.m.
Jacksonville
is still looking for its first win of the season after starting the year 0-4-0
in 2012. Unlike the Hatters, the Dolphins played their first four contests of
the season at home, falling to Georgia
State, Siena, FAU, and FIU. Jacksonville
scored one goal against Siena
but was shutout by the other three opponents. Nick Rodriguez tallied the
Dolphins' lone sore, and was assisted on the play by Matheus Saroli.
A series that dates back to 1957, Jacksonville holds a slight 33-24-8 advantage
over Stetson in the all-time series.
Last season the Hatters defeated the Dolphins in overtime by a score of
4-3 when Kai Eckenrode tallied two goals, including the game-winner. Stetson holds a 3-0-1 record against Jacksonville in its last
four tilts.
Friday will mark the first game of the year for the Stetson
men's soccer team at the brand new game field at the Athletics Training
Center. The Hatters' only other time on the pitch was
in a 3-1 exhibition victory over Florida
Southern.
Fans unable to make it out to the game on Friday can follow
along with live stats on GoHatters.com or watch the live video stream on
HatterVision with Ryan Rouse on the call.
The Stetson Men's Soccer Twitter Feed (@StetsonMSoccer) will also
provide in-game updates.
