– Three Hatters will compete for a championship on Sunday after the completion
of day two at the College of Charleston Invitational on Saturday.
Diana Bukajeva, Jen Miller, and MayaBlue Stauffer-MacDowell
will play in the A2, B1, and B2 singles championships, respectively.
Bukajeva advanced to the championship by defeating Anna
Ekelund (Charlotte) 6-1, 7-5. Clarke Tatje had the chance to play against
Bukajeva in the championship, but she fell to Olga Kalodzitsa 4-6, 6-3, 10-4 in
the semifinals.
Jen Miller defeated Jennifer Rink (Armstrong) 6-4, 6-1 to
advance to the final of the B1 singles draw. She will take on Jenny Falcone
(College of Charleston) for that championship.
Stauffer-MacDowell defeated Olivia McMillan 6-1, 7-6 (4),
and will take on Grace Baker (College of Charleston) in the final of the B2
singles draw.
In the A1 singles draw, Sara Lazarevic defeated Mikaela
Davies (Coastal) 6-4, 6-2 and Andrea Crespo was victorious over Kourtney Kowal
(Coastal), winning 6-2, 6-2. Lazarevic and Crespo will play against each other
on Sunday.
In the A2 singles draw, Lindsey Cable fell to Libby Scott
(Coastal) 6-1, 6-1. In the B1 singles draw, Eviline Lepinay picked up a win
over AnnMarie Lyon 6-0, 6-3.
Saturday also saw the beginning of doubles action for the
Hatters. The team of Cable/Lepinay won both of their matches in the Round Robin
group. They defeated the team of Ginny Johnson and Iveta Guneva (Charlotte)
8-0, and then went on to beat Blake Nickles and Courtney McCray (Davidson) 8-0.
In the A1 doubles draw, Lazarevic/Stauffer-MacDowell fell to
Barbora Krtickova and Alexsandra Filipovski (Armstrong) 8-2. They were then
defeated by Kourtney Kowal and Libby Scott (Coastal) in the second match.
The team of Bukajeva/Crespo won their first match because of
a withdrawal, but were defeated in their second match by Irene Viana and Brooke
McAmis (College of Charleston) 8-3.
In the A2 doubles draw, Miller/Tatje won one match and lost
one. They were defeated by Christin Newman and Sam Maddox (College of
Charleston) 8-3. They won their second match against Mikaela Davies and Shelby
Bates (Coastal) 8-6.
