After a full two weeks
off between games, the Stetson men's soccer team returns to the field on
Saturday, September 22 to host Florida International at 6:00 p.m. The Hatters are coming off their first win of
the season, while the Panthers have built a healthy 5-1-1 record through the
early part of 2012.
Florida International
began the season with five straight victories, which included four road
tilts. The Panthers topped Atlantic Sun
Conference members North Florida and Jacksonville during the stretch before
losing their first game to Furman at home last Friday. FIU then tied Missouri-Kansas City 1-1 on
Sunday. Quentin Albrecht leads the
Panthers with six goals on the season, while Nicolas Rodriguez and Lyle
Lindquist have each tallied three assists in 2012.
Stetson picked up its
first win of the season in its first contest at home in 2012. The Hatters defeated A-Sun foe Jacksonville
by a score of 2-0 on September 7. Senior
Kai Eckenrode scored the first goal of game, and of Stetson's season, putting
the ball into the back of the net after a couple of missed shots by his
teammates. Senior Luis Ocejo then
finished off a pretty run of passes in the second half to give the Hatters a
2-0 lead it did not relinquish.
FIU has had Stetson's
number since the all-time series between the two teams began back in 1975. The Panthers lead the Hatters 20-3-0,
including last year's 3-2 double overtime victory over Stetson in Miami.
