Last weekend on Sunday, September 16th, the Triathlon Club participated in their first competition since forming as a club sport team just before the end of the spring 2012 semester. The club had four students compete at the Fall Triathlon Festival at Moss Park, Daniel Freeman, Susan Scaggs, Rob Pruette, and Ian Campbell. All of the students completed the Sprint Triathlon that featured a .75 km swim, 20 km bike, and 2.8 mile run.
The race had over 70 people in just the sprint but Stetson took three podium spots out of the four racers. Rob Pruette finished first in the 20-24 age group followed by his teammate Ian Campbell who finished second. Susan Scaggs also took a first place finish in the 15-19 age group. Although Daniel didn't have a podium finish, he completed the race and showed his determination after a grueling bike ride with multiple flats.
The team will travel to volunteer in in two weekends at the IRONMAN Augusta 70.3 race and give back to the sport helping at aid stations encourage and give drinks and food to athletes racing.
