The Stetson men's soccer
team will play its third straight home contest, hosting Florida Atlantic on
Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. The Hatters are
coming off of a heartbreaking 2-1 overtime loss to FIU on Saturday, while the
Owls are looking for their first win since August.
Florida Atlantic comes to
DeLand with an overall record of 1-5-1, having failed to win since a 3-0 road
victory at Jacksonville on August 31.
Most recently, the Owls fell to another common opponent of the Hatters,
West Virginia. While Stetson dropped their
game at WVU by a score of 1-0, FAU fell to the Mountaineers 4-0 on Sunday. Deniz Bozkurt leads the Owls with two goals
so far on the season.
Florida Atlantic owns a
22-12-2 advantage over Stetson in the all-time series between the two teams,
which dates back to a forfeited game back in 1997. Last season the Owls defeated the Hatters by
a score of 2-1 in Boca Raton.
After a long two weeks
off between games, Stetson came out hot at home against then 5-1-1 FIU on
Saturday, scoring the first goal of the game in the 32nd minute of play. Junior Evan Jimmo tallied his first goal of
the season off of an assist by sophomore JJ Lofthouse-Smith. The Panthers tied the game in the second half
before scoring in the first overtime period to top the Hatters at home.
Wednesday's contest will
