The Stetson women's
soccer team returns home for the first time since September 14 to play host in
a pair of Atlantic Sun Conference games this weekend. The Hatters will take on A-Sun newcomer
Northern Kentucky on Friday at 7:00 p.m., and then welcome Lipscomb to town on
Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
Northern Kentucky comes
to DeLand with a record of 3-7-0. The
Norse won their first ever NCAA Division I game, defeating Canisius 2-0 to
start the season, but have since dropped seven of their last nine. Most recently NKU fell at the hands of
Jacksonville and North Florida at home in its first two A-Sun conference games
of the season. Martha Staab leds the
Norse with three goals in 2012, while Allison Ponzer has totaled four assists.
Lipscomb will play at
FGCU on Friday before challenging the Hatters on Sunday. The Bisons are 2-6-2 on the season and are in
the middle of a four-game losing streak.
Lipscomb recently lost to both North Florida and Jacksonville to start
the A-Sun conference season 0-2. Baylee
Linnell leads the Bisons with four goals and one assist through 10 games in
2012.
Friday will mark the
first ever meeting between Stetson and Northern Kentucky in women's
soccer. This is the first season of
Division I play for the Norse. The
Hatters have played Lipscomb nine times since starting the series back in 2001,
and Stetson is a perfect 9-0-0 against the Bisons. Last season SU topped Lipscomb by a score of
2-1 in overtime to end the year.
Stetson began Atlantic
Sun Conference play last weekend, splitting a pair ofroad games at ETSU and
USC Upstate. The Hatters fell behind
early and Jenna Premo scored late in a 3-1 loss to the Buccaneers. Stetson was victorious to end the weekend,
beating the Spartans 2-0 behind unassisted goals by Rebecca Oser and Mara
Keomanivane.
