The Stetson men's and women's cross country teams will
travel to UCF to compete in the Black and Gold Invitational this Friday in
Orlando. There will be a total of 17 teams competing in the event.
"The runners are focused on racing to get the best result,"
head coach Joe Matuszczak said. "Last year, this course was one of the better
races for us, and we are coming out to run our race."
The women's race is set to start at 5 p.m. and the men are
running at 5:40 p.m. The men are running an 8K, but the women are running a 6K
instead of their normal 5K.
"This will be the first and only 6K they do all season,"
Matuszczak said. "It will add an extra four to five minutes to the race time
and will be a good test two weeks out of conference."
This is the last race before conference, meaning it is the
last test for the teams as they get ready for the conference meet. The Atlantic
Sun Conference Championship will be October 27 in Fort Myers, Fla.
"This is one of the most important races of the season,"
Matuszczak said. "It is the last chance for us to tweak little things before
the conference meet."
This race is the "pink" event for breast cancer awareness,
and all of the participants will be wearing pink shoelaces.
