The Stetson men's tennis team will travel to Tallahassee this
weekend to compete in the ITA Southeast Regional Tournament.
The event, which starts on Thursday, will be the final of
event of the fall season for Stetson.
The Hatters begin play with the qualifying rounds on
Thursday. The main draw begins Friday morning. Four of the six Hatters slated
to compete will begin play on Thursday in qualifying.
Freshman Laurynas Antropikas (Palanga, Lithuania) will take
on Robbie Dubuque of Florida Atlantic at 8:30 a.m. to begin the action for the
Hatters. The winner will face Michael Rinaldi of Florida State at 11:30 a.m.
Another freshman, Simon Julin (Stockholm, Sweden) will face
Collin Brown of Florida Gulf Coast at 9 a.m. with the winner advancing to a
qualifying match at 1:30 p.m.
Junior Hans Adrian Riseng (Oslo, Norway) will face Sean
Bacha of Florida Atlantic in his first qualifying match at 11:30 a.m. with the
winner advancing to a 2:30 p.m. match for a spot in the main draw.
Freshman Egor Panyushkin (Moscow, Russia) will face off
against Michael Beller of Florida Gulf Coast in his first match at 8:30 a.m.
with the winner going on to face Will Oliver of Georgia at noon.
A total of eight players will advance from the qualifying
rounds into the main tournament draw, which will begin play on Friday.
Stetson has two players assured of positions in the main
draw. Senior Didrik Berg (Oslo, Norway) will face Pedro Wagner of UCF in a 10
a.m. match while freshman Cahit Kapukiran (Izmir, Turkey) will play against
Wilfredo Gonzales of Miami at 9 a.m. Gonzalez is one of the top 16 seeds in the
tournament.
In the doubles draw, the duo of Kapukiran and Riseng will
take on Gordon Watson and Billy Federhofer of Florida in an opening round match.
Berg and Antropikas will face off against Robert Schulze and Sofiane Chevallier
of Georgia State and the team of Julin and Panyushkin will face Federico
Sabogal and Everth Dzib of South Florida.
Times for the doubles matches on Friday have not been
announced.
