MACON, Ga. - Freshman
Mara Keomanivane was named to the Atlantic Sun Conference's postseason
All-Freshmen Team on Friday afternoon, as announced by the league office.
Keomanivane is the latest in a long line of honored first
year performers for the Stetson women's soccer program. This marks the seventh straight season that the
Hatters have placed a student-athlete on the All-Freshmen Team, and the ninth
all-time since the award began in 2001.
"I knew Mara was going to be an impactful player for us,"
Head Coach Julie Orlowski said. "She is a soccer junkie with a very high work
rate. Injuries created an opportunity
for her early on and she took full advantage.
"I think the toughest thing for a freshman to do is to give
a consistent performance every game, and Mara did that," Orlowski continued. "Being a unanimous selection is a tremendous
accomplishment."
Keomanivane was one of five unanimous selections on the
11-member team of rookies. Four of the
freshmen were from Florida Gulf Coast, two on ETSU and Jacksonville, and one
each for Mercer and Kennesaw State.
A playmaker, Keomanivane was tied for the team lead with
three goals in 2012. Playing in all 17
contests, and starting 16 of them, the midfielder scored her first career goal
as the first in a 5-2 victory over Florida Atlantic. Keomanivane went on to score in a 2-0 road
victory at USC Upstate and a tough 2-1 loss at UNF.
