FORT MYERS, Fla.
- The Stetson men's and women's cross country concluded their season by
competing in the Atlantic Sun Championship race on Saturday. The men finished
in ninth and the women finished in 10th.
"I thought the meet went really well," head coach Joe
Matuszczak said. "Both teams went out there and gave it all they had on a gusty
October morning."
In the men's race, USC Upstate won with a total score of 49
points, winning by a margin of four points over ETSU. Stetson finished with a
total of 295 points, beating out Jacksonville.
"The guys team really put together a great race," Matuszczak
said. "There were multiple personal bests, others were just off. All in all, it
was a great job."
Andrew Epifanio was the top finisher for the Hatters, coming
in 57th with a time of 27:45.40. The next runner to finish was
Jeremy Butler, who crossed the finish line in 64th with a time of
28:37.1. Ryan Hodgins (29:21.2), Brian Dughi (29:21.8), and Kyle Burton
(29:37.9) finished 67-69.
Andrew Townes was the next Hatter to finish the race, coming
in 72nd with a time of 30:06.63. The final two Hatters to finish the
race were Angelo Parkinson (31:03.4) and Cody Malloy (32:24.3), who finished in
74th and 75th, respectively.
In the women's race, Lipscomb came in first place with a
total score of 40 points. Stetson finished with a total score of 293 points.
"The women ran as a strong pack for a majority of the race,"
Matuszczak said. "Many of them ran season and/or collegiate bests."
Stetson's top finisher was Trixi Menge, who finished in 55th
with a time of 20:05.6. Following her was Sabrina Guszvany, who came in 58th
with a time of 20:12.3. Alyssa Thompson finished the race with a time of
20:16.7 (61st).
The next two Hatters to finish were Jessica Cosgrove
(20:55.0) and Emmie Wenzell (21:51.9), who finished in 70th and 76th.
The final three Hatters to finish the race were Shannon Harrell (22:24.1), and
(22:25.8), and Connie Compton (23:11.7), finishing in 68th, 69th,
and 82nd, respectively.
"After a couple weeks of rest and recovery, I look forward
to getting back out there," Matuszczak said. I am looking forward to get the
athletes ready for their next goals. Next year is going to be a great year for
Stetson cross country."
