Kiawah Island, SC – The Stetson Hatters slipped out of the top 10, finishing 15th at the Wendy’s Kiawah Classic after posting a final round score of 313 on Tuesday.
Freshman Dustin Dingus (Palm Harbor, Fla.), who entered the final round of the tournament with sole possession of the individual lead, posted a six-over par round of 77 in the final round to finish in a three-way tie for ninth in the tournament.
South Carolina (859), led by teammates Caleb Sturgeon (210) and Will Starke (212) in the top two spots, took the team title by 20 shots over second place Winthrop (879). Jacksonville State (885) finished third with the College of Charleston (890) and Marquette (896) rounding out the top five.
Stetson (918) finished three shots behind Connecticut (915) and four behind the host team from the College of Charleston (914) after Tuesday’s 313, which was the Hatters’ high score of the three-day event, dropping them from 10th place.
Behind Dingus (72-69-77=218), Hatters junior Tyler White (Palm Harbor, Fla.) shot a three-over par 74 on Tuesday to finish with a score of 235 for the tournament, good for a tie for 77th in the event, which included 26 teams and 135 players.
Sophomore Matt Taylor (Naples, Fla.) finished tied for 89th with freshman Andrew Peterson (Andover, Minn.). Taylor struggled home with an 84 on Tuesday to finish at 238 while Peterson had an 85 to post the same score.
Freshman Brian Kehoe (Ketonah, NY) closed the tournament with a 78 to finish tied for 117th with a score of 243.
The Hatters will close the fall season on Nov. 5-6 by hosting the Stetson Invitational at Victoria Hills Golf Club.
