Stetson University men's basketball head coach Casey Alexander announced Monday the signings of Alex Thompson (Dothan, Ala.), Brian Glasford (Miami, Fla.), Asa Duvall (Brentwood, Tenn.), and Andrew Zelis (Wheaton, Ill.) to national letters of intent to play basketball for the Hatters, starting in the fall of 2013.

"We believe these four signees are all talented basketball players, and collectively they offer us a very balanced class, bringing a culture of winning with them," Alexander said.  "We're thrilled that they've chosen Stetson and can't wait to have them suit up for the Hatters."

Thompson, who played at Jensen Beach High School (Florida) as a junior, is playing his final season at Houston Academy in Dothan, Alabama after a family move.  The 6-7 forward led Jensen Beach with 24.4 points, 10 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks while leading the team to a District 15-5A title and regional semifinal appearance in 2011-12. He also earned Class 5A All-State honors following his junior campaign.

"Alex just gets it done," Alexander said.  "It doesn't matter who he's playing for, or who he is playing against, Alex is always a difference maker."

Glasford, a 6-4 guard, averaged 14.8 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game as a junior in 2011-12 at Coral Reef High School in Miami.  He helped lead the Barracudas to a 20-7 overall record, an 8-2 league mark, and a District 16 Championship.  He was named All-Dade County honorable mention following his junior campaign.

"BJ's versatility is his greatest strength," Alexander said.  "His skill, length, and athleticism will put him in position to play a number of roles for us."

Duvall, a 6-2 guard, helped lead Brentwood High School, a Class AAA Sectional team from a year ago, to 26-8 overall record as a junior.  Duvall averaged 14.7 points per game and earned All-District honors in 2011-12.

"We've recruited Asa for a long time, and we're thrilled that he's joining our program," Alexander said.  "Asa is a shooter that we're always on the lookout for, and he comes from a well-respected program."

Zelis, a 6-11 center, helped lead Wheaton North to the regional quarterfinals in Illinois as a junior in 2011-12.  His size and skill level have drawn the attention of many schools, but he chose Stetson this fall.

"Everybody wants size on their roster, but for us, skill level is just as important," Alexander said.  "Andrew has both and will play an important role for us as he continues to develop."

Stetson (1-1) continues its 2012-13 campaign Monday night, hosting Southeastern (7-1) at 7:00 p.m. at the Edmunds Center.  Coverage will be available on HatterVision, ASun.TV, WSBB 1230 AM, and 1490 AM.
