MACON, Ga. - Junior
Chris Perez was named Atlantic Sun Conference Player of the Week after leading
the Stetson men's basketball team to two league wins, announced by the
conference office on Tuesday.
It marked the first time that Perez received the honor from
the A-Sun, and his second weekly honor overall in his two seasons with the
Hatters. Last year, he was named A-Sun
Newcomer of the Week after a 22-point performance in his first season at Stetson.
Perez's 19.7 points per game on 61.5 percent shooting during
the week led the Hatters to victories over Kennesaw State and Jacksonville to
even the team's conference record to 2-2.
The accolades mark the first time a Stetson player has been named A-Sun
Player of the Week since Ridge Graham received the honor on Nov. 16, 2010.
Perez has now scored in double figures in nine straight
games, dating back to a home contest against Florida Atlantic on Dec. 6. The guard is averaging 17.7 points and 5.1
rebounds, while shooting nearly 53% from the floor during the stretch.
After Monday night's season-best 23 point performance, Perez
has now reached 20 or more points four times this season and 11 times in less
than two years of competition at Stetson.
He's now seventh in the league with 14.8 points per game, and eighth in
the A-Sun with a field goal percentage of 51.9.
Perez and the Stetson men's basketball team, now 5-10
overall and 2-2 in A-Sun action, will next head on the road to ETSU and USC
Upstate. The Hatters take on the Bucs
Thursday, Jan. 10 at 7:00 p.m. and then challenge the Spartans on Saturday,
Jan. 12 at 5:00 p.m.
