In the first game of the doubleheader Stetson faced the
Tritons of Eckerd College. Eckerd started the game with a quick goal by Joey
Peyten. Eckerd started the game by scoring the first four goals of the game.
Stetson's first goal was scored by Phil Jabornik with six minutes left in the
first quarter. At the end of the first
quarter of play the score was 4-1 Eckerd. At the start of the second quarter
Eckerd scored quickly again, with the goal by Frank Mutterer, extending their
lead to 5-1. Stetson replied to the quick goal with a goal by Pierce Freeman
just a minute later cutting the Tritons lead to 5-2. The two clubs exchanged
goals in the middle of the quarter, but before the buzzer for halftime, the
Tritons scored a goal, giving Eckerd a 7-3 halftime lead. The Hatters started the second half slow
giving up six goals in the first five minutes of the third quarter, but the
Hatter defense responded by only giving up one goal in the last 25 minutes of
play. Even with the defense not giving up a goal, the Hatters fell to Eckerd
14-3. Walker Nambu scored 4 of the Tritons goals and Joey Peyten scored 3 goals
in the game as well. The Hatters leading scorer was Phil Jabornik with 2 goals
in the game.
In the second game of the doubleheader, Stetson faced off
against the Saints of Flagler College. Stetson opened the game by scoring the first 3
goals of the game, one by Jabornik and two by Sam Horowitz. Flagler's first goal of the game was scored
by Ryan Ceballos. At the end of first quarter the score was 3-1 in favor of the
Hatters. Stetson started the scoring in
the second quarter with a goal by Jabornik, giving Stetson a 4-1 lead. Flagler scored the next three goals to even
the game at 4-4, but Stetson ended the run with a goal by Logan Stewart to give
Stetson a 5-4 lead with a little over a minute left in the half. Flagler scored a last second goal as time
expired to even the score at 5-5 at halftime.
Stetson came out of halftime fast with a quick goal by Dan Cote giving
Stetson the 6-5 lead. Flagler responded three minutes later with a goal by
Nicky Damioni to tie the game again at 6-6. The game stayed tied until Colby
Ross scored the go ahead goal for Flagler with two minutes before the end of
the third quarter, giving Flagler the 6-7 lead.
The fourth quarter was controlled by the Saints, with three goals scored
by Flagler, giving them the win with a final score of 10-6. The leading scorer
for Flagler was Nicky Damioni with a hat-trick while the Hatters leading
scorers were Phil Jabornik and Sam Horowitz with two goals a piece.
The Hatters next game will be this weekend February 22nd-24th
in Valdosta, Georgia. They will be competing in the 2nd Annual Men's Lax Valdosta Tournament. The next home game for the Hatters will be
April 5th versus Palm Beach Atlantic University.
