Industry Hills, Cal. – The Stetson University women’s golf team finished ninth in the opening event of the spring season.
The Hatters struggled home in the final round of the Folino Invitational Presented by the Automobile Club of Southern California with a score of 323. That score dropped Stetson one spot in the final standings behind Cal Poly.
Gonzaga, which won the event in 2012, repeated as team champion, leading the event wire-to-wire and finishing with an 11-stroke advantage over host Cal State Fullerton in second place. The Zags finished with a team score of 902.
Individually, Stetson junior Claudia Redinger entered the final round tied for third place, but a final round score of 84 dropped her all the way into a tie for 20th in the final results.
Raychelle Santos of Gonzaga fired a one-under par 70 on Tuesday to clip Portland State’s Aram Choi by one shot for the individual title. Santos finished the tournament with a score of five-over par 218.
The Hatters will be back in action next at the JMU/Eagle Landing Invitational March 11-13 at Eagle Landing Golf Course in Orange Park, Fla.
